How to maintain a healthy & balanced lifestyle

Maintaining a balanced lifestyle is much easier said than done, but with practice, patience and trust you will eventually find a way that works for you! The key point to remember is to not be hard on yourselves. Much like you, I love to indulge in my favourite foods, eat well, train hard, rest my body, feel good ect. However, all of this can get very overwhelming to juggle sometimes, so I have put together 4 of my major tips I like to incorporate in my day to day routine to maintain balance within my lifestyle.

  1. Nourish your body

To maintain a balanced lifestyle, you must make sure you are healthy and eating nutritious and healthy foods! I find following the 80/20 rule really helps me maintain balance in my diet and avoid any restrictive behaviour that can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. 80% of the time I focus on eating and nourishing my body with nutritious and wholesome foods and 20% of the time I allow myself to indulge in my favourite treats. You can incorporate the 80/20 rule daily or weekly, it’s up to you and how it works for you. At the end of the day, everything in moderation is good for you, your health and soul.

  1. Self Care & Movement

When it comes to giving your body rest and movement, listening to your body is so important! You need to trust your body and what it tells you because at the end of the day, your body knows you the best. Some days you may feel like working out and some days you won’t. Some days you feel extra hungry and some days you don’t even think about snacking. Overall your body will balance itself out and you just need to ride the wave and go with it; Have a rest day when you don’t feel like training and eat a little more when you’re extra hungry……it’s all these little 1 percenters that add up over time and will have your body thanking and loving you for listening to it.

  1. Being Organised

Being organised is a massive tip when it comes to balance! Organisation will naturally reduce stress and improve balance in your life! Having a rough idea or planned week ahead will clear your mind and allow room for activities you enjoy, which gives you the balance! Some things I like to organise before my new week begins include:

  • My meals; I ensure I have an idea of the meals I’ll be eating that week so I don’t stress when I come home from work as I have a rough plan of what I’ll be eating that day
  • My groceries; I ensure to fill the fridge and pantry with wholesome and healthy food options before the new week starts. Having easy access to some sort of protein, chopped lettuce, fruits and veggies!
  • My weekly schedule: I like to have a rough plan of the days/times I’ll be training and the days I’ll give my body a rest (I am lenient with this though depending on how I’m feeling through the week)

  1. Create Routine

Creating a night and morning routine will improve your lifestyle balance majorly! Having a night routine will ensure you are getting a sufficient amount of sleep each night and waking up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle your day! Creating a morning routine such as; waking up with an alarm, drinking a glass of water, having a wholesome breakfast and going for a walk, will only set you up for a good day and make balance easy to maintain!

At the end of the day, creating balance is not an outcome, It’s an ongoing process of making intentional choices about how you want to utilise your time and energy. Slowly overtime you’ll continue to learn and find what works for you to have great balance in your life, but just remember to not be too hard on yourself!
